Our Handwovens are created in small batches featuring the craftsmanship of talented women across the U.S. Each fabric is created exclusively for Jamie + the Jones in collaboration with the creative vision of our weavers. All of our handwovens are 100% Cotton and completely transparent, from seed to sew. That means you can trace our sweaters back to the very beginning of their existence, starting with the cotton seed and the origin of its growth.
Meet our Weavers
The Weaving Mill is an artist-run industrial weaving studio in Chicago. Working with people of diverse textile experience, they aim to fill the space between the hand and industrially made and bring the mechanics of textile production into wider view. They make projects of their own, textile and otherwise, that respond to the practice of running a small industrial mill. In partnership with social services agency Envision Unlimited, they provide textile education workshops for adults with developmental disabilities and host an experimental artist residency program designed to give artists working in diverse media access to studio space and to encourage collaboration between visiting artists and the artists of Envision Unlimited.
Amanda James is running a small batch Textile Manufactory based in Madison, WI. Her fascination for the hand loom and all of its many moving parts is unfading, and for her, the joy is in the making; touching and retouching each piece of yarn, overcoming challenges, and discovering new possibilities.
Comfortcloth is a husband and wife team located in Glens Falls, NY that are driven by a passion for handweaving and the notion that creating with ones hands is not only about making, but also the satisfaction of creation. They want to bring their passion for weaving to you and to help grow the community of crafts-people by providing great materials and knowledge so that weavers can then be armed to pass these skills on to the next generation.
Katie Strano weaves out of her old farmhouse in Southbury, CT, where she lives with her husband, 7 year old son + dog Runka. Katie creates the gorgeous movement and variation in this tee with hand dyed organic cotton yarn and a textured yarn called “slub.” She loves the idea of making a functional thing of beauty and the problem solving weaving requires.
